The staff was great and I wish that we had chosen to stay there longer
They helped us buy train tickets, but told us the incorrect station to go to. Fortunately we had enough time to get to the correct station. No complaints.
The staff is helpful. Give advice when help is needed.
1. TV reception is good for only 2 days though I stayed for 5 days. 2. Their arrangement for guided local tour is quite expensive when compared with others. 3. Though my booking is in US dollars but they billed me in local Renmingbi and consequently I ended up paying them more.
I have spent my life travelling in 5 star luxury this offered a real taste of Beijing in an authentic Courtyard setting in a neighbourhood full of street food, pavement sellers and good local restaurants and without a tourist in sight. It also offered free wi-fi
Absolutely nothing, it was a great place to stay for those who are little adventurous.
Our stay was very brief, but it was comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was very good and the common area very comfortable.
It was a little difficult for our cab driver to find and it was certainly tucked out of the way. I could see how some people may be unsure about staying in a hotel off a back alley, but once you are inside, it is an oasis.
The staff were very attentive and response with questions both via email and in person when I arrived at the hotel. I found the whole experience fantastic and relaxing. It was like a small oasis in the madness of Beijing.
The staff were superb and the accomodation was excellent. Much nicer to stay in an attractive traditional Hutong than a boring standard 5 star hotel. The service was personal and the rooms and public space were nicely decorated. The rooms were a decent size and clean. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Beijing who is looking for a cultural, personal experience.
It's a home away from home :) Being in a country that is not that friendly (China), I didn't feel alien, rather feel so homie. And always look forward to coming home (Michael's House). It's comfortable, with friendly atmosphere.
Only the breakfast gets cold very fast, the juice was canned juices, and the butter tasted a little funny.
great staff, speak english well, good location - thank you !!!
The hotel looked very very nice, though the district it was situated in was not very nice, which can be a plus if you want to see working part of Beijing. The metro was 5-10 minutes away and the walking there was safe. Both girls of the reception were absolutely adorable and answered all our questions. The breakfast was correct with a mixture of chinese and european food (dumplings, eggs, bacon, rice, milk, cereals, fruits ...) The room looked very nice and was calm.
We had some problems with hot water in our room. The elctricity of the heater would go off and we had to warn for it to be turned on again, and wait a bit for the water to heat up. They told us they were going to fix electricity of that part of the hotel soon.
Delightful people - the staff were friendly and very helpful with good command of English. Wonderfully quiet, elegant courtyard to sit and relax in. Tasteful decor and music. Easy to access the metro, and thence the whole city of Beijing.
A charming hotel, with very friendly staff. Good beds and clean (bath)rooms.
Location! We were looking for a hotel in the DongCheng area. And online I understood Michael's hous is in this area. However on their local business card it says Haidian area. Even though it's on the border next to Dongcheng it is too far away from all the main attractions for a short city trip! Breakfast can easily be improved a little as well.
Hotel has fantastic ambiance- beautifully decorated, comfortable, and clean. The reception area has a comfy sitting area where you can spend time chatting with other travellers or just with the group you are travelling with. Cold drinks can be purchased at reasonable price. Of the three women who worked at the reception area, two of them were extremely helpful and friendly with tips on city tours, suggestions of what to see and how to get there. One of the three always seems like she rather be somewhere else instead of assisting clueless tourists. The breakfast that is included with the room rate is very convenient. We can have a good breakfast before setting out to see the city without having to go around an unfamiliar city looking for food.
The location of the hotel is not very good. We travelled as a family with an older member who cannot walk as well as younger members and the subway was a good 10 minutes walk on crowded, dusty streets and crazy drivers on busy streets. Also, would be nice if the hotel offers coffee and tea after an exhausting day visiting various places in Beijing.
freindly and helpful staff
Very friendly staff, eager to help and nothing too much trouble (loan of corkscrew and wine glasses, provision of plates and heating up for food bought outside, extra beds for kids no problem); good selection of guidebooks and novels in many languages; very nicely furnished and decorated comfortable room. Both room and (四合院) communal courtyard area were warm and cosy. The breakfast was a bit samey, but staff were happy to cook up more bacon and hash browns etc when they ran out. Good to have a computer provided in the room, although the Internet connection was slow and unreliable. All in all we had an excellent stay and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, location is quite good, the hotel is quiet and pleasant. Overall a great place to stay in Beijing
